Jameis Winston has experienced a resurgence of sorts as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in the 2024 NFL season. In several starts, he’s displayed some of the brilliance he displayed from his early years in the NFL and his college days, when he became the youngest-ever Heisman Trophy winner.

After almost a decade in the NFL, Winston has earned tens of millions of dollars. Here’s how much he’s worth now and how much he makes quarterbacking for the Browns.

What is Jameis Winston’s net worth?

Winston has a net worth of $22 million, according to most online sources. The bulk of his wealth comes from his salaries for the past 10 years as quarterback for several NFL teams.

A Heisman recipient typically commands a premium upon being drafted, and Winston was no exception. His first contract with the Buccaneers guaranteed him $23.35 million over four years (a little over $5.8 million per season) plus a signing bonus of $16.7 million)

What is Jameis Winston’s salary as Browns quarterback?

Jameis Winston’s contract with the Browns guarantees him a $4 million paycheck for the 2024–2025 NFL football season. This makes him the 26th-highest-paid QB in the league.

Who is Jameis Winston? His early life and career explained

Jameis Winston was born in 1994 and grew up in Bessemer, Alabama. He attended Hueytown High School in Alabama, where he played football and baseball. He was a top national prospect before he graduated in 2012, and he was recruited to play football by Florida State University, where he also played baseball. In the 2012 MLB Draft, Winston was picked in the 15th round by the Texas Rangers.

As a freshman, Winston led Florida State to the BCS National Championship and was later Heisman Trophy winner — becoming the award’s youngest recipient ever at 19 years old.

In 2015, he was the overall number-one pick in the NFL Draft and was selected by the Buccaneers. Winston was the 21st quarterback to be selected as a top pick in the NFL draft’s modern era (since 1967), according to the NFL.

Winston later continued his studies and took online classes at Florida State before graduating in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences and a minor in business.

After four seasons with the Buccaneers, he spent four years with the New Orleans Saints, mainly as a backup quarterback.

A resurgence with the Cleveland Browns

In the 2024 season, Winston signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Cleveland Browns as a backup to Deshaun Watson. When Watson suffered an Achilles injury in week seven against the Cincinnati Bengals, Winston was called onto the field and has since experienced a career resurgence of sorts.

In the week-12 matchup against division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers in the snow, Winston led the Browns to a win. The following week, Winston set a team record of 497 passing yards in a loss to the Denver Broncos. After Week 13, Winston’s record as starting quarterback with the Browns was 2-5, with four games remaining.

Winston is one of eight starting quarterbacks with a Heisman trophy playing in the 2024 season. By comparison, Joe Burrow, the quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals and the 2019 Heisman recipient, is the league’s highest-paid starter with an annual salary of $55 million.

How does Jameis Winston make his money?

Winston’s wealth is primarily derived from his football earnings, but he is also sponsored by multiple companies. He’s in a partnership with tea drink maker Ryl Tea, and he serves as a pitchman for the company on Instagram.

Winston also has a website, jaboowins.com, through which he sells merchandise such as t-shirts, hoodies, and hats. His social media status has grown with his popularity as the Browns’ starting quarterback in the wake of Watson’s injury.

How much has Jameis Winston earned in total as an NFL quarterback?

Since his rookie year in 2015, Winston has earned $75 million, according to data from Over the Cap, which compiles contract information. That includes the $2.79 million of the one-year, $4 million contract he has with the Cleveland Browns for the 2024 season.

The most Winston has earned with a team was $46 million for his four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which drafted him as a rookie.
